Box office top 20: ‘Maze Runner’ outruns the field

NEW YORK (AP) — The young-adult novel adaptation “The Maze Runner” proved far quicker at the box office than the weekend’s other new wide releases: Liam Neeson’s grim thriller “A Walk Among the Tombstones” and the ensemble dramedy “This Is Where I Leave You.”

In final figures announced Monday, 20th Century’s Fox’s “The Maze Runner” took in $32.5 million, more than double that of any other release. A sequel is already planned for next September.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Rentrak, are:
