D.C. ghost tours delight and fright this season

WASHINGTON — The ghosts are back in town now that the leaves are changing and the nights are getting cooler.

The National Building Museum has reportedly found documents belonging to a builder who, records show, died in 1886 while assisting with the construction of the historic building.

But the letters date after the builder’s death and burial.

“We’re so happy to have found this new glimpse into our extraordinary building’s history,” Cathy Frankel, vice president of collections and exhibitions, says in a statement.

“Although it’s made a few of us a little jumpy while at work.”

Fragments of the documents and have been posted on the museum’s website. They read:

“Why does no one remember me? I must find who killed me, he must face judgment.”

“The days pass with no change. How can I break free.”

“These tours mock me, and still, the others have their stories shared. They will remember me soon.”

Museum officials believe the tours mentioned in the notes refer to the upcoming ghost tours, which kick off this weekend.
