BRISTOL, Va. (AP) -- A museum is opening in Bristol, Virginia, that recognizes the region's country music heritage.
The Bristol Herald Courier (http://bit.ly/1pHbfXO) reports the Birthplace of Country Music Museum debuts Friday and will host a grand opening ceremony Saturday.
Exhibits will recognize the musical heritage of Bristol, Virginia, and Bristol, Tennessee, and the 1927 Bristol Sessions recordings, which nonprofit group BCM says marked the beginning of what became country music. The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers were among the musicians who recorded songs that year in Bristol.
