‘Maleficent’ debuts with $69.4 million

NEW YORK (AP) — Angelina Jolie scared up $69.4 million over the weekend for Disney’s “Maleficent,” trouncing the other new wide-release, Seth MacFarlane’s comic Western “A Million Ways to Die in the West.” The Universal comedy opened with $16.8 million.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Rentrak, are:
