Backstage: After long hiatus, Garfunkel returns to D.C.

WASHINGTON – Here’s a look at this weekend’s top concert picks.

Scheduled for Friday night at the 9:30 Club, Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes fame performs.

Also scheduled for Friday night at the Birchmere, 10,000 Maniacs performs.

Former lead singer Natalie Merchant left the band in 1993, but the group has forged ahead with Mary Ramsey taking over vocal duties.

The band is in the middle of a crowd-sourcing campaign to finance production of an album consisting of traditional folk songs from the British Isles.

Singer Art Garfunkel is scheduled for a Saturday performance at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue.
