Teenager planks for a World Record while raising thousands

WASHINGTON — Two days after turning 16 years old (the age one is eligible for breaking a World Record), Gabi Ury, of Colorado, doubled the Guinness World Record for the longest women’s abdominal plank.

The current record is 40 minutes 1 second, and Ury held the plank for 1 hour 20 minutes and 5 seconds.

This inspiring teenager first discovered her aptitude for planking while at high school volleyball tryouts. Ury has a rare syndrome called VATER. It affects her spine, legs, feet and organs.

She says instead of running at her tryouts she did the plank. “I am missing my calf muscles, so I’m not a big fan of running.”

In this video, Ury says she hopes to get an invite to be on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Ury planked at volleyball tryouts for a surprising twelve minutes. Ever since then, she says her dream became to break the World Record while raising money for Children’s Hospital Colorado.

It is the same hospital that performed almost all of her 14 surgeries she has undergone combating VATER syndrome.

On Ury’s website, you can see her World Record experience.

Ury’s original goal was to raise $5,000, but says she has gotten pledges amounting to $50,000.

Guinness World Records is reviewing her accomplishment and expected to issue a confirmation in May.
