Not a fan of the name Commanders? Jason Wright says he understands why you might feel that way.

Jason Wright deftly spun away from a question Thursday about what the runner-up choice was in the process that ultimately led to the newly rebranded Washington Commanders. But as a former All-Big Ten running back at Northwestern University, it’s no surprise he’s perfectly comfortable being elusive.

Still, the team president of the Commanders said during his talk with David Rubenstein at the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., he understands why fans are having a difficult time embracing the new name.

“I’d say it’s mixed at best with our core fans,” Wright said of the approval ratings for the new name, which was unveiled Wednesday. “Eighty percent of our fans didn’t want it to change, and that is their starting point.”

But he hopes the brand will catch on, and added that Wednesday’s reveal was just the start. He said the next couple months will be about the organization getting in front of more people and getting them familiar with the new name. He said people in Greater Washington…
