WASHINGTON -- Punk rock fans know him as the cheerleader and hype man for Richmond band Avail, but now Beau Butler is considering a career change.
"My name is Beau Beau and I'm running for mayor of Richmond," he says.
"Well now it's official I guess? Clay Aiken is running for Congress!!! Cause where else should a quasi famous singer (I use the word singer lightly) who also happens to be gay have the best chance of winning? The South of course, where else!?"
Eventually Butler gets around to saying he will run for mayor in 2016, an idea that started off as a "goof" but then quickly became more serious after fans jumped on the concept.
"So far, we have a lot of people saying they will vote for me if Avail plays at the inauguration," he says.
Unfortunately, that "isn't going to happen."
But what could happen if Butler wins is banning cars in crowded neighborhoods such as the Fan, side-swept haircuts on men and Croc shoes.
Also "flip-flops with jeans. Flip-flops in general. Those stupid flippy haircuts where every dude has to flip their hair, those are going to be banned," he says.
But really, don't get him started on flip flops.
"Flip-flops with heels, those are just ridiculous. The wedged flip-flops? They're horrible. And dudes just in general should never wear flip-flops. It's just not a dude thing."
Butler has until 2015 to officially enter the mayoral race. In the meantime, follow his campaign using the hashtag #voteforbeaubeau:
