Sarah Silverman pens a poignant tribute to her best friend, her dog

WASHINGTON – Owning a pet changes your life, and so does the death of a pet.

After the death of her long-time companion, Duck Doug, comedian Sarah Silverman took to the celebrity platform, WhoSay, to write about her chihuahua-pug mix, according to Mashable.

In a poignant obituary, Silverman writes about how Duck remained her constant companion and best friend for 14 years.

“Recently, however, he stopped eating or drinking. He was skin and bones and so weak. I couldn’t figure out this hunger strike. Duck had never been political before. And then, over the weekend, I knew. It was time to let him go.”

Silverman goes on to describe massaging the dog and hearing Duck’s “I’m in heaven” breaths before he was put to sleep.

“I told him how loved he was, and thanked him for giving me such happiness and for his unwavering companionship and love. The doctor gave him a shot and he fell asleep, and then another that was basically an overdose of sleeping meds. I held him and kissed him and whispered to him well passed his passing.”
