VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- The Navy has cancelled its annual air show in Virginia Beach as a result of automatic federal spending cuts.
The show had been scheduled for Sept. 20 through Sept. 22 at Naval Air Station Oceana. The Navy cancelled the show on Tuesday.
The Navy said in a statement that Defense Department policy says outreach events can only be supported with local assets at no cost to the government.
The Navy said it intends to continue aerial demonstrations in the future as budgets allow it.
