BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) -- Jimmie Johnson had the opportunity Thursday to participate in the preliminaries of the Woodward Dream Cruise in suburban Detroit.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader made several passes at the Dream Cruise, an annual event that showcases classic cars along one of metro Detroit's famous streets.
"I drove my '67 Camaro that I built in '05," Johnson said. "It's a good driving car and has lots and lots of power."
Johnson said "Michigan's unique U-turn set-up" provided a perfect setup for laying down the rubber.
"It's a fun car to drive and I was able to lay down a little rubber (Thursday) and drift the car around a little bit and not get pulled over and arrested," he said.
Now, the question is whether Johnson will be celebrating a victory Sunday at Michigan International Speedway. He's never won a Cup race at MIS.
"There have been a lot of reasons why," Johnson said. "I really look forward to the day I'm able to pull into Victory Lane over here."
