BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) -- Austin Dillon finished 14th in the No. 14.
Dillon's performance as a replacement for injured driver Tony Stewart started off shaky Sunday but finished strong at Michigan International Speedway. He was involved in an accident early on.
"It was up and down," Dillon said of his day on the track. "Definitely scared myself at the beginning. It was too early to be wrecking out there."
The early accident forced driver J.J. Yeley out of the race.
"I didn't mean to get into them like that at all. I just grabbed the brakes and locked them down in the rear, couldn't steer out of it," Dillon said. "Luckily we had saved enough car where we could work on it, get some track position."
Stewart broke his leg during a sprint car race on Aug. 5. This was Dillon's second-best finish of the season in eight Cup starts. He was 11th in Michigan's June race while driving for Richard Childress Racing.
