The LPGA will return as Portland Classic

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Classic is making a comeback.

The LPGA’s annual tournament stop at Columbia Edgewater Country Club, known as the Safeway Classic for the past 18 years, has a new sponsor in locally based Cambia Health Solutions.

The tour stop, which dates back 43 years, is the oldest non-major on the LPGA tour. The Portland Classic was its original name.

The 72-hole tournament with a purse of $1.3 million will be played at Columbia Edgewater from Aug. 28-31. Suzann Pettersen won the tournament last year by two strokes over runner-up Stacy Lewis.

Proceeds from the Portland Classic will benefit children’s charities in Oregon.
