ARDMORE, Pa. (AP) -- A quick look at the third round of the U.S. Open at the 6,996-yard, par-70 Merion Golf Club (all times EDT):
Leader: Phil Mickelson, who led or owned a share of the top spot after the first two rounds, shot 70 Saturday and at 1 under was the only player in the 73-man field below par.
Pursuers: Hunter Mahan (69), Charl Schwartzel (69) and Steve Stricker (70) were another shot back at even par. Three players -- Justin Rose, Luke Donald and Billy Horschel -- were at 1 over.
Where's Tiger?: Woods shot 76 -- tying his worst U.S. Open showing as a pro -- and was 9 over and likely out of contention.
Notable: Not even one player managed to make a birdie at No. 18.
Quotable: "At least I started well." -- Woods, who birdied No. 1 and never made another to offset his seven bogeys.
Television: Sunday, noon to 7:30 p.m., NBC.
