Montgomery Co. takes to the fair to show off rapid transit bus

That’s a big bus. And where do you show it off? In Montgomery County, at the county’s agricultural fair. That’s where county transit authorities are displaying an $850,000, 60-foot articulated bus, part of what may become a fleet of new commuter buses for the county, according to WAMU.

Montgomery County is aiming to add a fleet of upgraded buses in its plan — years from now — to build an 80-mile bus rapid transit network, according to Bill Griffiths, who’s in charge of the county’s bus fleet.

“The beauty of buses is, this is a basic bus and this is configured for maximum seating capacity. With the bus rapid transit program we will be able to configure this any way we want it, including bike racks internally and more priority seating for ADA,” Griffiths told WAMU.

Two bus rapid transit corridors are at the top of the list, including routes 355 and 29.
