Swim coach pleads guilty to child abuse

ROCKVILLE, Md. — The man who founded the Maryland Suburban Swim Club in Laurel, Maryland in the 1980s pleaded guilty to one count of child abuse that occurred in the 1980s.

Christopher Huott, 53, of Fulton, Maryland, appeared in Montgomery County Circuit Court Wednesday morning with his attorney David Krum.

Under the terms of the plea, Huott faces up to 10 years in prison.

Huott was arrested and charged in April after a woman — now in her 30s — came forward and told police that Huott had coached and babysat for her, and that he’d sexually abused her on a number of occasions.

Huott was accused of inappropriately touching her while she sat in his lap, showered or slept.

She said the abuse started when she was seven and continued until she was 12.

Huott, who has been an area swim coach for nearly 30 years, is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 11.

His name and profile no longer appear on the Maryland Suburban Swim Club website.
