MCFRS units responded to the report of construction equipment on fire at the intersection of Oak Lane and Woodbine Street at about 9:35 a.m. It turned out to be a fallen tree that caused wires to come down in the 7200 block of Oak Lane.

MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said the wires were arcing. There were no injuries.

MCFRS and Montgomery County Police have taped off and closed streets in the area as they deal with the clean-up.

The downed wires meant 1,305 Pepco customers were without power at 10 a.m., including many in the heart of downtown Bethesda.

The estimated restoration time was noon, according to Pepco’s outage map.
