Firefighters evacuated residents of the 17-story Forum Condominium on Tuesday morning after a carbon monoxide leak from a malfunctioning water heater.

MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer reported the evacuation of the North Bethesda building (11801 Rockville Pike) began around 6:30 a.m.

Hazmat crews went floor-by-floor, evaluating residents and ventilating the building. Nobody was taken to the hospital. It did take crews a few hours to find the source of the carbon monoxide and allow residents back inside.

Fire equipment blocked the right lane of northbound Rockville Pike near the scene, but MCFRS began clearing out around 9:30 a.m.
