Leggett Rolls Out TV Ad, Shows Cash Advantage

Isiah Leggett’s campaign rolled out its first TV ad on Tuesday, the same day new campaign finance reports showed Leggett maintained a huge cash advantage over opponents Doug Duncan and Phil Andrews.

The ad features Leggett’s wife, Catherine, speaking about her husband’s roots as one of 13 children growing up in a three-room house in Louisiana. This led to Leggett learning the special value of education.

“Endorsed by the Washington Post, Ike’s made the tough decisions, staying true to our progressive values, like increasing the minimum wage,” Catherine Leggett says. “Ike will keep our schools the best in the nation because he knows the power of education firsthand. I know because Ike’s my guy.”

Leggett’s latest fundraising report show his campaign would be able to afford at least a few more commercials like it.

Leggett raised $311,478 in the period from Jan. 9 to May 20. After spending about $206,000 in the same time, Leggett’s campaign war chest is left with $1,076,255 to use in the primary’s final month.

Duncan’s campaign raised $257,374 and spent $245,270 in the time period, leaving the campaign with $343,225 on hand. The Andrews campaign spent $114,593 since January and raised nearly $90,000, leaving the councilmember from Gaithersburg with $93,933 in the bank for the race’s stretch run.
