Drybar Celebrates New Hair Salon Alcohol Law

Del. Ariana Kelly, Drybar founder Alli Webb and staff from the Bethesda Drybar location at Monday afternoon's bill signing ceremony, via DrybarA law to allow a free glass of champagne to customers in Montgomery County hair salons was one of the many alcohol rule changes to come out of this year’s General Assembly.

A Bethesda delegate and business had a lot to do with it.

Courtney Barfield, manager of the Drybar location on Bethesda Row, worked with District 16 Del. Ariana Kelly to push for the law, which allows for hair salons in Montgomery County to apply for a permit to serve complimentary wine, beer or champagne to their clients starting July 1.

The so-called “Drybar Bill” was among the hundreds of bills Gov. Martin O’Malley signed on Monday. Drybar foudner Alli Webb flew in from California for the Monday afternoon bill signing ceremony.

So Drybar will soon be able to offer a glass of wine or bubbly to customers during their blowouts. The business opened in October 2012 at 4840 Bethesda Ave.
