A condo construction project in progress on Montgomery Lane will be joined by a condo construction project around the corner that recently got county approval.

Excavation work has already started at 4825 Montgomery Lane, future home to a five-floor, four-unit batch of luxury condos on the former site of a single family home.

The sidewalk on the north side of Montgomery Lane for the length of the project site has been closed.

Montgomery County on Tuesday gave The Lauren, a seven-floor, 25-unit luxury condo project slated for 4901 Hampden Lane, the go-ahead to start construction.

Across the street from 4825 Montgomery is 4831 West Lane, where D.C.-based developer SJG hopes to build a seven-floor, 120-unit apartment building.

The apartment project has brought much more opposition from neighbors than the two condo buildings.

But the neighbors also have asked the developers to stagger construction times, as to not completely back up the small street. Montgomery Lane is one-way between West Lane and Woodmont Avenue.

An attorney for the apartment project said SJG will have to coordinate with Montgomery County and other developers on its construction project, which won’t start until after the project has been approved — likely by the end of this year. With a projected groundbreaking in early 2015 and a 20-month buildout, the West Lane apartments would be complete in 2016.
