Slew Of Security Drills Planned For Naval Support Activity Bethesda

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Flickr pool photo by AmyMarieMoore“Delinquent behavior” at security gates, arrests, mass casualty exercises and an active shooter drill will make late February a busy time at Naval Support Activity Bethesda, the Rockville Pike installation home to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

NSAB will go through an extensive security and anti-terrorism training drill called Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield from Feb. 17 to Feb. 28, as reported by base public affairs writers for DCMilitary.com.

The drill will mean lights, sirens and an increase in security, but base officials said it shouldn’t mean many delays or disruptions.

Reminders will be passed out to patients and visitors at the base’s gates and parking garages on the day of the drills. On Feb. 27, an active shooter drill for both Walter Reed and the Uniformed Services University will mean a 15-minute shelter-in-place exercise.

The drills also mean base security will do 100 percent ID checks at the gate, which could cause some traffic delays around the perimeter. There will be no gate closures.

For more details on what to expect out of the drills, read the report on DCMilitary.com.
