Bethesda Events This Month

Here are some of the interesting Bethesda events planned for the remainder of October, with a few in early November.

Wu Promotion presents the Beijing Symphony Orchestra in cooperation with Attila Glatz Concert Productions. The BSO is the critically-acclaimed Chinese ensemble, praised for both for its interpretation of standard repertoire and for premiering the works of Chinese composers. Established in 1977, the ensemble will make its first trip to America this October to debut at Carnegie Hall and then make its Washington area debut at Strathmore on October 20. The BSO, led by Maestro Tan Lihua, will perform both classical as well as Chinese symphonic music representing the country’s rich culture.

Make a difference in your community during Montgomery County’s 27th Annual Community Service Day on Saturday, October 26th. Community service projects will take place during the week of October 20th-27th. This is a perfect opportunity for parents and students to serve together and a great way to connect with organizations. Student Service Learning hours are available with most of the projects.

Something big is coming to Rockville Pike. Join in the fun at the Pike & Rose community festival with activities for the whole family, including: Pike Central Farm Market, live music curated by Strathmore, interactive photo booth, food trucks, wine tasting, truck touch featuring construction trucks, face painting, pumpkin decorating, balloon art, and more! @ Pike & Rose, corner of Old Georgetown Rd and Rockville Pike

Saturday, Nov. 2

Time: The gallery is open now and will be open until Nov. 3. Hours are 12 p.m. — 6 p.m.

Fraser Gallery returns to its former location in downtown Bethesda, Gallery B, to present a group exhibition of cityscape paintings by 4 of its artists, including Bethesda native, Gavin Glakas, D.C based artist Ben Ferry, and from New York City, artists David FeBland and Beata Drozd.

Come for a taste of the Washington National Opera! As artists from the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program perform Opera’s Best-Loved Arias and previews of upcoming productions, there will be food, beverages, and shopping specials to benefit the opera. Opera at the Plaza will be held rain or shine, and all are welcome to attend. A donation of $10 is suggested.

Widely regarded as one of Ireland’s finest classical musicians, Finghin Collins (pronounced Fineen) has just completed a fascinating project as the first ever Associate Artist of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin. As part of this three-year tenure, he performed the complete Mozart and Beethoven piano concertos with the orchestra, having directed most of them from the keyboard.
