Somebody over the weekend drove on and tore up the new turf at a Bethesda Elementary School, the second incident there in a month.

Wyngate Elementary School principal Barbara Leister said someone drove a vehicle on the new sod behind the recently constructed addition to the school. Earlier this month, someone drove on the renovated field and damaged a fence.

In a note to parents, Leister wrote that she requested MCPS install new sod on the grounds in an effort to have a playground for the students.

“I am sure whomever drove on the field lives in the vicinity and certainly is not acting in a responsible manner,” Leister wrote.

She said a group of neighbors told her about last weekend’s incident. Some attempted to put the displaced grass back.

The field and playground area behind the school (9300 Wadsworth Dr.) doesn’t appear that accessible. It backs up to a heavily-wooded park and row of single family homes.

Leister asked anyone who sees someone driving on the field to record the license plate number and call police.

The school recently finished a $10 million addition project.
