It was a big Tuesday for the Children’s Inn at NIH at Nationals Park, where a resident threw out the first pitch and the K’s for Kids program surpassed $43,000 in donations.
Children’s Inn resident and Atlanta native Donovan Jasper, 18, threw out the first pitch before Tuesday’s rescheduled Nationals game against the Atlanta Braves. The Children’s Inn provides housing for patients at NIH and their families, many of whom come from great distances.
Jasper’s ceremonial catcher was Nationals’ pitcher Stephen Strasburg, whose No. 37 is a big part of this year’s K’s for Kids initiative.
The Washington Area Toyota Dealers have pledged $37 toward the Children’s Inn for ever strikeout by a Nationals pitcher this season. With 11 games left in the regular season, the program has raised $43,105, thanks to 15 combined strikeouts in the Tuesday doubleheader.
Jasper “promised he was cheering for the Nats,” despite his Atlanta ties. As for Jasper’s delivery: it was reportedly a solid heave right over the plate. Jasper played quarterback and was on his high school marching band.
