One of Bethesda’s oldest businesses celebrated 100 years last week with the unveiling of three art pieces meant to reflect how it and the area has transformed.

Union Hardware (7800 Wisconsin Ave.) will turn one century old early next year. It was established in 1914 and through three generations of ownership in the same family has shifted from an old-fashioned hardware store to luxury kitchen and bath showroom.

Owner David Goldberg, who in 2011 created the “Starry Night” piece out of doorknobs on the Norfolk Avenue side of the building, put together three new pieces to mark the milestone.

Goldberg unveiled them on Friday.

There’s the “Bethesda Butterfly,” a six-foot wide piece made from more than 500 cabinet hardware items. The “100″ that makes up the body of the butterfly marks the store’s age.

The “Autumn Breeze,” 1,000 cabinet hardware items positioned in the shape of a tree, and “Pretty Bird,” in honor of the state’s official bird, the Baltimore Oriole.
