The familiar green siding of the building at 4900 Fairmont Ave. in Woodmont Triangle is coming down today, before the structure is completely demolished to make way for a 17-story, 250-unit apartment on the site.

The Montgomery County permit to tear down the 15,540-square foot building was issued in March.

Workers had the south sidewalk of Norfolk Avenue, between Fairmont and Woodmont Avenues, blocked off today. Expect similar closures for the Fairmont Avenue sidewalk on the adjacent side of the building.

In other construction news, the developer of the 8300 Wisconsin project will update nearby residents with an informational meeting set for Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center (4805 Edgemoor Lane).

In an email provided to apartment residents along Battery Lane, developer StonebridgeCarras said piles have been completed along Woodmont Avenue and drilling has moved to the north side of the project on Wisconsin Avenue.

Mass excavation will start next week along Woodmont Avenue, so expect a flow of large trucks in and out of the site. Blasting is set to begin around July 25 and will happen from time-to-time through the end of the year.

According to the email, the contractor in charge of undergrounding power lines in the area is almost done with its work and Pepco has been scheduling controlled power crossovers with affected neighbors. Pepco will be done with the crossover work by Friday and will then remove the overhead power lines.
