Police: Man stabs mother in Silver Spring home after dispute

SILVER SPRING – A man is facing charges for allegedly stabbing and killing his mother in the Silver Spring home they shared.

Montgomery County officials charged Fidel Washington with first-degree murder after police say the 25-year-old killed his mother, 50-year-old Esperanza Valle. Police responded to Valle’s home in the 9700 block of Mt. Pisgah Road at about 8 a.m. Friday after Valle had not shown up for work recently.

Officers found Valle dead in the residence with multiple stab wounds to her body. Police arrested Washington, who was in the apartment at the time. He lived in the apartment with his mother, according to officials.

Washington later admitted to police that he killed his mother after they had an argument about his unemployment. Officials have not yet released information about when the conflict occurred or how long Valle was dead.

Washington is scheduled to appear in Rockville District Court Monday afternoon for his bond hearing.
