Mont. Co. woman killed in wreck after driving through standing water

WASHINGTON – A 52-year-old woman was killed on Monday after driving through standing water in Montgomery County and losing control of her car.

Frances Cooke D’Anna, of Poolesville, was headed west on Darnestown Road shortly after 9:30 p.m. when she lost control of her 2008 Hyundai Elantra driving through standing water near Bucklodge Road. D’Anna crossed into into the eastbound lanes and hit a tree, Montgomery County police say.

She was taken to a hospital where she died of her injuries.

Police say D’Anna’s 18-year-old daughter was a passenger in the car and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation and police ask anyone with information regarding it to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
