WASHINGTON – Detectives in Montgomery County have released pictures of the woman they believed robbed a cab driver in Silver Spring on Thursday evening, following a negotiation at knife-point over the final price.
Just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the 20- to 30-year-old suspect got into a Barwood cab in the 8515 block of Fenton Street in Silver Spring and asked to be driven to the Starbucks on East West Highway, according to a Montgomery County Police release. She said she needed to stop for money, and told the driver to head to the Capitol One Bank at 8676 Georgia Avenue.
The suspect then brandished what police believe was a 12-inch knife and demanded the driver’s money and credit cards. The cab driver complied.
Still holding the knife, she then walked with the driver to the ATM and demanded the driver’s bank account PIN. Before finishing the transaction, the driver pressed “cancel” on the machine to void the transaction. The suspect then entered a lower amount, and the driver again pressed cancel.
The suspect then entered an even lower amount, and the cab driver cooperated. She then fled on foot to the Silver Spring Metro station after getting business cards and “personal proceeds” from the victim, the release states.
