Rwanda disqualified for player with 2 identities

CAIRO (AP) — Rwanda has been thrown out of the African Cup qualifying competition for using a player with “two identities.”

The Confederation of African Football says Congo-born striker Dady Birori was ineligible to play for Rwanda because he is registered under a different name and with a different date of birth when he plays for his Congolese club.

The confederation says Birori is known as Tady Etekiama with Kinshasa’s AS Vita. He also plays for the club under a Congolese passport.

On Sunday, Rwanda was stripped of its victory over Republic of Congo in the second round of African Cup qualifying this month, and Birori was banned pending a Sept. 17 hearing.

Republic of Congo replaces Rwanda in the final round of qualifiers.
