LONDON (AP) -- With Luis Suarez beginning a 10-match ban for biting an opponent, Liverpool romped to a 6-0 victory Saturday in the Premier League for Newcastle's worst home loss since 1925.
Liverpool was undeterred by incessant chants from the Newcastle fans: "Luis Suarez -- he bites who he wants."
Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson each scored twice. Daniel Agger and Fabio Borini also struck in a game in which the hosts finished with 10 men.
"It was an awful performance by us," Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said.
Suarez was suspended for biting Chelsea defender Bransilav Ivanovic in a match last Sunday.
"Very happy with this great win!!!" Suarez wrote on Twitter. "Congratulations to all my teammates!!!!"
Liverpool remains seventh in the standings -- five points and a place below neighbor Everton, which beat Fulham 1-0 on Steve Pienaar's goal.
Tottenham stayed in fifth after missing a chance to move back into the four Champions League places by drawing 2-2 at Wigan. Tottenham is even on points with Chelsea, but its London rival has a superior goal difference and a game in hand in fourth.
Manchester City strengthened its grip on second place, the only thing it can aim for after Manchester United won the trophy Monday. Yaya Toure's late curling strike clinched a 2-1 win for City over West Ham.
Charlie Adam eased Stoke's relegation fears after by securing a 1-0 victory over Norwich. Southampton was a point behind after losing 3-0 to West Bromwich Albion.
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) -- Barcelona gave up a tying goal in the 90th minute, spoiling a great performance by Lionel Messi in a 2-2 draw with Athletic Bilbao. The outcome means the leaders must wait another week for a chance to clinch the Spanish league title.
With his team trailing 1-0, Messi came off the bench in the 59th minutes to transform his club and in 10 minutes the visitors were in front.
Messi extended his record run of scoring in 20 straight league appearances when he dribbled through a pack of defenders to tie the game in the 67th minute. He then set up Alexis Sanchez two minutes later, and Barcelona looked set to win until Bilbao's Ander Herrera pounced on a loose ball to shoot just inside the post in the 90th.
Barcelona can win what would be its 22nd league title in the next round against Real Betis. It remained 13 points ahead of Real Madrid after the defending champions continued their dominance over Atletico Madrid by rallying for a 2-1 win.
Celta Vigo won 1-0 at Levante to escape the relegation zone for now with its first back-to-back victories of the season.
BERLIN (AP) -- Despite resting its top players, Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich broke the league record for points in a season by beating Freiburg 1-0 for its 14th straight victory.
Nineteen-year-old Emre Can scored off Xherdan Shaqiri's free kick in the 35th minute, and Bayern went on to boost its point total to 84 with three games remaining.
Bayern had already wrapped up the title with six games to spare. The previous record of 81 points was set by Borussia Dortmund last season.
Bayern and Dortmund rested players ahead of their return legs in the Champions League semifinals at Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively.
Dortmund, which made 10 changes to the lineup that beat Madrid 4-1 midweek, survived a late scare to win 2-1 at Fortuna Duesseldorf.
Relegation candidate Hoffenheim beat Nuremberg 2-1. Wolfsburg defeated Borussia Moenchengladbach 3-1. Bayern Leverkusen topped Werder Bremen 1-0.
PARIS (AP) -- Mathieu Valbuena scored in the 25th minute, leading Marseille to a 1-0 victory at Lorient to keep its slim title hopes alive and strengthen its grip on second place in the French league.
Marseille scored against the run of play when Valbuena planted a low shot into the corner of the net from just outside the penalty area.
The win moved Marseille six points behind leader Paris Saint-Germain, which hosts Valenciennes on Sunday. A win would restore PSG's nine-point lead with both teams then having four matches remaining.
Marseille went its seventh straight game without conceding a goal. The club is five points ahead of Lyon, which hosts Saint-Etienne on Sunday, and seven points ahead of Saint-Etienne and Lille.
