Booth’s SO goal lifts Leafs over Flyers 3-2

LONDON, Ontario (AP) — David Booth scored the only shootout goal, and the Toronto Maple Leafs edged a Philadelphia Flyers split squad 3-2 in a preseason game Monday night.

Nazem Kadri, playing in his hometown, scored with 15 seconds remaining in the second period to make it 2-1. Kadri then set up the tying goal 1:39 into the third by threading a cross-ice pass to defenseman Tom Nilsson, who fired a one-timer past Anthony Stolarz.

Matt Read and Michael Raffl had goals for the Flyers, and Nick Cousins assisted on both. Stolarz played the entire game and made 29 saves.

Toronto’s Christopher Gibson stopped 11 of 12 shots, and Cal Heeter did the same in relief. Heeter earned the win after playing in the Flyers’ system last season for Adirondack of the AHL.

The Flyers’ other split squad edged Washington 5-4 in Philadelphia on Monday.
