Knuble says he won't be back with the Caps

WASHINGTON - Mike Knuble says he won't be back with the Washington Capitals next season.

The veteran right wing said goodbye to Capitals fans via Twitter on Wednesday, saying "thanks for an awesome 3 yrs in DC."

Knuble will become a free agent on July 1, and he turns 40 on July 4.

He was a major contributor in his first two years in Washington, scoring 29 goals in 2009-10 and 24 goals in 2010-11. This year he scored only six goals and his ice time dropped significantly.

Knuble has also played for the Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers. He has 274 career goals and 266 assists.
