WASHINGTON - All those changes couldn't get the Washington Capitals any further in the playoffs.
The Capitals went with a new coach and a more defensive mindset this postseason. They played two edge-of-the-seat series, but ultimately fell in seven games to the New York Rangers.
Saturday's 2-1 defeat in Game 7 at Madison Square Garden means the Capitals still haven't made it past the second round during the Alex Ovechkin era.
Now there are some decisions on tap. Does Dale Hunter return as coach? Does the team stay with the more defensive-minded approach? If so, do they have the personnel to pull it off?
There were no immediate answers Sunday. The Capitals took the day off, but those questions will resume when they reconvene to pack up their belongings for the summer.
