WASHINGTON (AP) -- First baseman Chris Marrero has been sent outright to Triple-A Syracuse by the Washington Nationals.
Thursday's move takes former first-round draft pick Marrero off Washington's 40-man roster.
He becomes a minor-league free agent after the World Series ends.
Marrero was the 15th overall choice in the 2006 amateur draft. He made his major league debut with the Nationals in 2011, hitting .248 with zero homers and 10 RBIs in 109 at-bats over 31 games that season.
He was back in Washington for eight games this season, hitting .125 in 16 at-bats.
