Fans wearing blue and gold to Tuesday's Washington Nationals games

Tuesday - 9/17/2013, 12:44pm  ET

WASHINGTON - Washington Nationals fans may be used to wearing red and white, but on Tuesday one day after shootings at the nearby Navy Yard they're being encouraged to sport blue and gold to honor the U.S. Navy.

While there has been no formal announcement from the club about suggested fan apparel on Tuesday, reporters, analysts and fans are taking to Twitter to advise those heading to Nationals Park to wear the Navy's colors of blue and gold. The Nats have a doubleheader Tuesday after the team postponed its Monday game against the Atlanta Braves following the shooting, which left 13 people dead.

The Nationals will wear blue and gold Navy hats during batting practice, according to Dan Kolko, a Washington Nationals beat writer for MASNsports.com.

Sideline reporter Julie Alexandria tweeted a picture of Nats' pitcher Craig Stammen wearing the hat before Tuesday's afternoon game.
Alexandria tweeted that she would be wearing blue and gold Tuesday and asked fans coming to the game to do the same.

F.P. Santangelo, an analyst for the Nats on MASN, also shared a tweet with a picture of the outfit he is wearing to support the U.S. Navy.

The Nats' Tuesday games are scheduled for 1:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m.
