Giants go with Perez over Ishikawa in Game 7

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The San Francisco Giants opted for Juan Perez over Travis Ishikawa for the start in left field for Game 7 of the World Series against the Kansas City Royals.

Ishikawa is primarily a first baseman and made eight outfield appearances during the regular season. He is a better hitter than Perez, but Perez is a better defender.

Perez also started in Game 4 at AT&T Park. He is 3 for 9 in the Series with three RBIs, singling in the ninth inning of Game 6.

Ishikawa is 3 for 13 in the Series with no RBIs.

“I just thought about it and said, you know what, we’re going to put our best defense out there,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said before Wednesday’s game. “He can do some things with the bat, whether a base hit, get a bunt down for you, gives you speed. I’ve got Ishi on the bench, so that’s why I made the change because not only his defense, but he has been swinging the bat better.”
