ATLANTA (AP) -- The Philadelphia Phillies have claimed outfielder Ezequiel Carrera off waivers from the Cleveland Indians.
To make room on the team's 40-man roster, outfielder Ender Inciarte was designated for assignment. Carrera is with the Phillies for Wednesday night's game against the Atlanta Braves.
Manager Charlie Manuel says Carrera "is still improving as a hitter" and can play all three outfield spots. Manuel says Carrera gives the team a more experienced backup outfielder.
The 25-year-old Carrera hit .272 with two homers, 11 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 48 games with Cleveland in 2012.
