BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake says the city is mourning the passing the former Orioles manager Earl Weaver.
The mayor says Weaver's teams brought pride and championships to the city. Rawlings-Blake says Weaver helped develop a smarter way of playing baseball that built a team that was competitive for decades. The mayor says her prayers are with the Weaver family, the team and the generations of fans who loved his unique character.
The fiery Hall of Fame manager died at age 82 while on a cruise in the Caribbean sponsored by the Orioles. Weaver took the Orioles to the World Series four times over 17 seasons and won the title in 1970.
