UNDATED (AP) -- The NHL players begin voting this evening on whether to approve the new collective bargaining agreement. The balloting continues until Saturday morning. The owners unanimously ratified the new deal yesterday

PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) -- Major League Baseball will test for human growth hormone throughout the upcoming regular season. Players were subject to blood testing for HGH just during spring training last year.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- David Akers is keeping his job as San Francisco's starting kicker for Saturday's playoff game against Green Bay. The 49ers (11-4-1) signed Billy Cundiff on Jan. 1 to compete with 15-year veteran Akers, who struggled this season while making only 29 of 42 field-goal attempts.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Cincinnati offensive coordinator Jay Gruden (GROO'-den) has interviewed for the head coaching job with Arizona. The Cardinals have been looking for a new coach since firing coach Ken Whisenhunt (WIHZ'-en-hunt) the day after the regular season ended.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Danica (DAN'-ih-kuh) Patrick won't be taking part in this year's Indy 500. Because of her commitment to the NASCAR Sprint Cup season, she will race in the Coca-Cola 600 instead.
