Douglas recognized for London performance...Brewers get 1 and lose one...Griffin probable

UNDATED (AP) -- U.S. Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas is the AP female athlete of the year. The all-around gold medal winner in London edged swimmer Missy Franklin, who won four gold medals and a bronze in the Olympic pool. Wimbledon and U.S. Open champ Serena Williams was a distant third in balloting by U.S. editors and news directors.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Lefty reliever Tom Gorzelanny has signed on with the Milwaukee Brewers. The eight-year veteran closed out the 2012 season with a strong performance, posting a 1.33 ERA in 27 innings pitched out of the bullpen following the All-Star break.

HOUSTON (AP) -- After going 5-4 with a 3.63 ERA in 72 relief appearances for the Brewers this year, veteran right-hander Jose Veras is leaving Milwaukee for Houston. The Astros are his sixth major league team.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III went through a full practice for a third consecutive day and is listed probable for Sunday's game at Philadelphia. Griffin missed last week's win at Cleveland while dealing with a knee sprain.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- College football's bowl season picks back up tonight in St. Petersburg, Fla., where Ball State and Central Florida are matched up in the Beef O'Brady's Bowl. Both teams are trying to get to 10 wins for the season.
