(AP) -- Third-ranked Syracuse escaped with a 72-68 home win over Detroit to make Jim Boeheim (BAY'-hym) the third Division I men's basketball coach with 900 career wins, joining Bob Knight and Mike Krzyzewski (shuh-SHEF'-skee). Boeheim was presented a jersey encased in glass with 900 emblazoned on it, 36 years after coaching his first game at the school. James Southerland had 22 points as the 10-0 Orange extended the nation's longest home winning streak to 30 games.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The New York Jets' playoff hopes are over after Mark Sanchez lost a fumble in the final minute after throwing four interceptions in a 14-10 loss to the Titans in Tennessee. Chris Johnson carried 21 times for 122 yards, including a 94-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Jake Locker scored on a 13-yard run late in the third quarter to put the Titans ahead to stay.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Reigning National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey has announced he's worked out a contract extension with Toronto, paving the way for the Mets to trade him to the Blue Jays. The Mets will also send catchers Josh Thole (TOH'-lee) and Mike Nickeas (NIK'-ee-uhs) to the Jays for catcher John Buck, catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud (DAHR'-noh) and two other minor leaguers. Dickey must pass a physical before he officially joins the Blue Jays, who will pay him $29 over the next three years.
UNDATED (AP) -- The Tigers have finalized their five-year contract with right-handed pitcher Anibal Sanchez, who helped Detroit reach the World Series this year. The Houston Astros have signed veteran Carlos Pena (PAYN'-yuh) to be their designated hitter as the club prepares for its first season in the American League. And the Athletics have reportedly come to terms on a contract with All-Star shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima of Japan's Seibu Lions.
NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson says forward Amare Stoudemire (ah-MAR'-ay STOW'-duh-my-ur) has been cleared to practice and will work out with the team's NBA Development League affiliate this week. Woodson didn't know if Stoudemire could play this week on the Knicks' homestand, saying he wouldn't rush the veteran forward. Stoudemire has been out all season following left knee surgery.
