Tuesday - 12/4/2012, 3:10am  ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Robert Griffin III accounted for 235 total yards and the Washington Redskins' defense allowed just 117 total yards in the second half of a 17-16 win over the New York Giants. The Giants led 16-10 until Griffin hit Pierre Garcon for an eight-yard touchdown with 11:31 remaining. Griffin threw for 163 yards and ran for another 72 to become the single-single record-holder for rushing yards by an NFL rookie quarterback.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh says that Colin Kaepernick (KAP'-ur-nik) will remain the team's starting quarterback for Sunday's game against Miami despite an overtime loss to the Rams. Harbaugh took the blame for a misfired pitch by Kaepernick that led to a St. Louis touchdown. The coach indicated that former starter Alex Smith is not out of the mix to be the starting quarterback again.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel (man-ZEHL'), Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o (MAN'-ty TAY'-oh) and Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein are the finalists for the Heisman Trophy. Manziel is the favorite to win college football's most glamorous award when it is presented Saturday night in New York. He would be the first freshman to win the Heisman and the first Texas A&M player since halfback John David Crow won the school's only Heisman in 1957.

UNDATED (AP) -- Kansas State's Collin Klein has won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the nation's top upperclassman quarterback. And Notre Dame star Manti Te'o (MAN'-ty TAY'-oh) came away with two trophies on Monday, taking the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker, and the Bronko Nagurski Award as the country's top defensive player.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The New York Yankees say third baseman Alex Rodriguez will have surgery on his left hip, an injury that could sideline him until the All-Star break and may explain his spectacularly poor performance during the playoffs. Rodriguez has a torn labrum, bone impingement and a cyst. He batted just .120 with no RBIs in 25 at-bats during this year's American League playoffs.
