ATLANTA (AP) -- In the first meeting between these powerhouse college basketball programs, ninth-ranked Duke got the better of third-ranked Kentucky, 75-68. Seth Curry scored 23 points and Duke held off a furious comeback to beat the defending national champions in their first meeting in 11 years.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Keith Appling scored 19 points, including a brilliant drive with 13.5 seconds left, and No. 21 Michigan State rebounded from a season-opening loss with a 67-64 upset of No. 7 Kansas on Tuesday night. This was the Spartans' first game stateside after opening with a loss to unranked Connecticut at a military base in Germany.

MIAMI (AP) -- A person familiar with the deal says the Miami Marlins have undergone another payroll purge by trading shortstop Jose Reyes (RAY'-uhs), left-hander Mark Buehrle (BUR'-lee) and right-hander Josh Johnson to the Toronto Blue Jays as part of a blockbuster deal. The person said the trade sent Yunel Escobar (yoo-NEHL' EHS'-koh-bar) and several of the Blue Jays' top prospects to the Marlins.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Davey Johnson was picked as the NL Manager of the Year after guiding the Washington Nationals bolted to the best record in baseball. Oakland's Bob Melvin won the AL Manager of the Year after guiding the Athletics to AL West title, winning 20 more games than they did in 2011.

PITTSBURGH (AP) --Whether it's Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH'-lihs-bur-gur) or seldom used backup Byron Leftwich quarterbacking the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night against arch-rival Baltimore is unknown at this time. Big Ben suffered a sprained shoulder in his throwing arm Monday night and coach Mike Tomlin listed him as questionable.
