Accident Shuts Down I-270 Northbound

CLARKSBURG, Md. - Montgomery County authorities say northbound Interstate 270 near Clarksburg was shut down early Friday afternoon after an accident.

Pete Piringer, a county fire and rescue spokesman, says initial reports indicate that a car traveling south on the interstate crossed the median, struck a flatbed truck and caught fire.

Piringer says the truck driver and other motorists stopped and pulled a women from the burning car.

He says she had life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Piringer says the truck driver suffered no serious injuries.

The accident occurred about 1:15 p.m. All northbound lanes were closed, but the accident is now cleared and all lanes are open.

Maryland State Police are conducting an accident investigation.
