Substitute teacher charged with more sex offenses

WASHINGTON — A man accused of inappropriately touching students at two local
middle schools has been charged with multiple counts of third-degree sex offense
after more victims came forward with similar allegations, Montgomery County
Public Schools announced Friday.

Jose Pineda, a substitute teacher, was arrested in mid-October and
charged with one count of third-degree sex
offense. Earlier that month, the county police department investigated the
alleged sexual offense.

On Friday, detectives charged Pineda with three additional counts of third-
degree sex offense and three counts of sexual abuse of a minor because of the
additional allegations.

Two of the victims attended Ridgeview Middle School in Gaithersburg; the other
attended Forest Oak Middle School, also in Gaithersburg.

The two incidents at Ridgeview Middle School occurred during the end of the
2013-2014 school year. Allegedly, Pineda inappropriately touched two girls, on
two different occasions during the school day, while acting as a substitute
teacher.

The Forest Oak incident happened in 2004. There, Pineda allegedly touched a
young girl during the school day while acting as a substitute teacher.

The students were in the sixth and seventh grades when the offenses took place.

Pineda is being held on $150,000 bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center
with a bond review scheduled for 1 p.m., November 24 at the Rockville District
Court.
