Fire damages 10 row houses in Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Authorities are investigating a fire that damaged 10 row houses in Frederick’s downtown historic district.

No injuries have been reported in the fire that was reported shortly before 1 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of South Market Street.

The Frederick County Division of Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services says six of the dwelling units sustained significant damage.

Chief Chip Jewell says two families were displaced. He says the other units were either vacant or without full-time occupants.

Jewell says the fire spread through the roof and attic areas common to the buildings.

He says the units are believed to have been built around 1860. Jewell says they lacked sprinklers and fire separations between the homes.
