2 police officers facing misconduct charges

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Prince George’s County officials say two county police officers have been indicted in separate incidents of alleged misconduct.

Officials announced the indictments Thursday. Police say both officers have been suspended pending the outcomes of their cases.

Authorities say the first incident allegedly happened in November 2012 after a juvenile was arrested for alleged vandalism. Authorities say he was screaming in his cell when Officer Jerry Thomas struck and shoved the handcuffed juvenile. Thomas has been charged with two counts of misconduct.

In the second incident, which allegedly occurred in 2013, authorities say Officer Charles Pickard assaulted a student at Suitland High School before arresting the student. He’s charged with second-degree assault, multiple counts of misconduct and one count of reckless endangerment.
