Nanny sentenced for stealing $430K from Md. family

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A nanny who stole more than $430,000 from the family that employed her has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Fifty-year-old Kadiatu Sahid Kamara (kah-dee-AH’-too sah-HEED’ kuh-MAH’-ruh) of Gaithersburg was also ordered to pay restitution at sentencing Monday in federal court in Greenbelt.

According to her plea agreement, Kamara cared for the children of a Montgomery County couple. Prosecutors say between May 2011 and May 2013, Kamara forged one of the victim’s signatures on more than 100 checks drawn on the victims’ money market account.

Authorities say Kamara used the money to buy a house in Africa and to gamble at a casino in West Virginia.
